A tourist was swept away by the current on a stand-up paddleboard during a rafting trip on the Ai River in the Chelyabinsk region, reports RIA Novosti. The tourist is being searched for with the help of drones, according to the regional Investigative Committee of Russia (SKR).
The missing woman was part of a group of 15 people participating in the rafting on stand-up paddleboards, who did not register their route with the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM), RIA Novosti was informed by the regional department of the agency. The Ai River is considered one of the most popular routes for outdoor recreation in the region.
According to the Chelyabinsk region search and rescue service, the group set off for the rafting trip on the Ai River on the afternoon of June 28. At some point, the 35-year-old tourist hit a rock with her paddle and capsized, after which she was swept away by the strong current of the river.
Search efforts for the missing woman are being conducted by specialists from the Zlatoust search and rescue team in conjunction with other emergency services. The regional SKR clarified that the organizer of the rafting is an individual entrepreneur, who was also responsible for renting out the equipment. A criminal case has been initiated under the article on providing services that do not meet safety requirements.
