Rescuers assisted in the evacuation of a tourist after a collision of catamarans on the Rezh River, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Sverdlovsk region reported on Friday.

The emergency occurred on Thursday, July 2, near the village of Sokharevo in the Rezh district on the Rezh River. A registered group of 91 people participated in the rafting on catamarans. Due to the strong current, two catamarans collided, resulting in one of them capsizing.

Information was received at the fire station in the city of Rezh via the 112 system. Five rescuers from the 223rd fire and rescue unit were dispatched to the scene.

On an island in the middle of the river, they found a tourist with a broken leg. The firefighters evacuated the injured person to a safe place and then sent him to the hospital. The group's rafting was halted.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia reminds water tourists of the main safety rules:

Register your route! When going out on the water, be sure to inform the territorial body of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia about your plans. This will help rescuers find you faster in case of an emergency.

Maintain distance! Keep a safe distance between vessels on the water, especially in areas with strong currents and in narrow channels, to avoid collisions.

Life jackets are mandatory! They must be worn by every participant in the rafting, regardless of whether they can swim or not.

Sobriety and discipline! The consumption of alcohol on the water is strictly prohibited.

Listen to the instructor's instructions and do not get distracted.

Study the route and weather! Before going out, check the weather forecast, water level, and the presence of hazardous areas (rapids, shallows, snags).

Have communication devices and a first aid kit with you! Phones should be securely packed, and the first aid kit should contain means for immobilizing fractures and stopping bleeding.

Save the emergency services number in your phone: 112 (the call is free even without a SIM card and with a negative balance).
