The second defendant in the beating of the scientists from the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences was brought to court smiling.
On July 31, 2026, the Oktyabrsky District Court is holding a hearing to determine the preventive measure for Arkadiy Wagner, the second defendant in the beating of the now deceased 67-year-old Nikita Zezin and his deputy, 58-year-old Alexander Shanin.
Wagner is suspected of beating Shanin. The day before, the court sent to pre-trial detention for two months his acquaintance, 38-year-old Alexander Reveruk, who attacked the elderly doctor of agricultural sciences Zezin.
As reported from the courtroom by a correspondent of "Channel 4," 39-year-old Arkadiy Wagner "is smiling and looks relaxed."
It is known that the man is an entrepreneur. He has two children - 10 years old and 1 year old. He, like his friend Reveruk, claims that he was merely protecting the children, who allegedly were forcibly put into his car, effectively kidnapped by the elderly agrarian scientist.
Together with his deputy Shanin, Zezin saw how Reveruk's and Wagner's older children were destroying crops in the experimental fields with their ATVs and decided to report them to their parents. They arrived in four SUVs and began to beat the men, one of whom, Nikita Zezin, soon died in the hospital from a heart attack.
UPD. The court, at the request of the investigation, has chosen a two-month detention for Arkadiy Wagner, accused under part 2 of article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (hooliganism by a group of persons).
"When choosing this preventive measure, the court found the arguments of the investigation justified, stating that the defendant is accused of committing a serious crime, and may hide from the preliminary investigation and court, threaten witnesses and other participants in the criminal proceedings, destroy evidence, or otherwise obstruct the proceedings in the criminal case," reports the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Sverdlovsk region.
