Sverdlovsk region has broken the record for precipitation in decades.
In the Sverdlovsk region, a record amount of precipitation has been recorded over the last 67 years. According to the Ural Hydrometeorological Center, about 200 mm of rain fell in the region just in July.
In Yekaterinburg, the amount of precipitation reached 196.8 mm, significantly exceeding the previous record set in 1986, when 168.3 mm fell.
August also started with heavy rains. In just the first day of the month, 31 mm of precipitation fell in the Ural capital—this is already 41% of the monthly norm.
As meteorologists note, on the first day of August, different areas of the Sverdlovsk region received from 30 to 80% of the monthly norm of precipitation. In the northern part of the region—in Severouralsk, Karpinsk, Krasnoturinsk, and Kytlym—rains caused by a slowly moving cyclone have already provided the monthly norm of precipitation.
The upcoming week, by the way, will also be quite rainy.
