      Six people sought medical assistance in Nizhny Tagil after a tram derailed, reports the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Sverdlovsk region.

      The accident involving tram route 12 ("Pikhtovyye Gory - Ulitsa Ostrovskogo") occurred on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, around 1:00 PM near the house at 36 "a" Kulibina Street in Nizhny Tagil.

      According to preliminary data, the 31-year-old tram driver, a local resident, lost control of the rear bogie while moving from the stop complex at an uncontrolled intersection of Kulibina and Bondina Streets, leading to a collision with a power line support.

      At the time of the incident, there were about 30 passengers on the tram, six of whom, including two children, sought medical assistance. After being examined by medical personnel, the injured were released home.

      The tram was operated by a driver with one year of experience in category "Tm." This year, the driver has not been held administratively responsible for traffic violations. No signs of intoxication were established based on the results of the examination.

      During the questioning, the tram driver explained that after completing the boarding and alighting of passengers, she felt a sharp jolt from the rear bogie as she began to move. By applying emergency braking, she lost control of the movement trajectory, which led to the tram's rotation.

      Administrative materials have been drawn up against the driver under Article 12.33 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation (damage to road structures) and part 2 of Article 12.24 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation (traffic violation resulting in moderate harm to the health of the victim).

      An investigation is underway regarding the traffic accident, following which a procedural decision will be made.

      "The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate reminds that operating public transport requires drivers not only technical skill but also a high degree of responsibility for the life and health of passengers. Every action, especially the start of movement from a stop, must be performed with utmost concentration and visual control of the road situation," the agency's message states.

      UPD. The investigative department for the Tagilstroy district of Nizhny Tagil has initiated a criminal case regarding the provision of services that do not meet safety requirements for the life or health of citizens (part 1 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

      "The investigator of the Investigative Committee is questioning witnesses to the incident, the tram driver, and appointing forensic medical examinations to establish the severity of the harm caused to the health of the victims," reports the regional Investigative Committee. "Documentation regulating the provision of transportation services is being requested, and other investigative actions are being carried out to establish all the circumstances of the incident."
