      Traffic on the federal highway Yekaterinburg-Tyumen was restricted on Saturday near Tyumen due to the collapse of an overhead pedestrian crossing onto the road. The structure was knocked down by a Volvo dump truck.

      The accident occurred the day before at the 297th kilometer of the federal highway, reported the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of Russia for the Tyumen region.

      The driver of the "Volvo" explained that the truck bed opened spontaneously while driving.

      The metal structure fell onto the road, hitting a "Gazelle" vehicle and completely blocking all lanes of traffic.

      Fortunately, there were no injuries in the incident.

      During the restoration work, traffic was regulated by traffic police inspectors. A detour was organized for passenger cars along the shoulder. Trucks were redirected to the Kurgan-Tyumen highway.

      By Saturday, traffic on the highway was opened in both directions and was proceeding without difficulties.

      Recall that in the Sverdlovsk region, one of the most resonant incidents of this kind was the collapse of a pedestrian bridge on Dimitrova Street in Yekaterinburg, which occurred on September 29, 2020. At that time, the cause of the emergency was also the truck bed of a "KAMAZ" that opened while driving. As a result, the 27-year-old driver of the dump truck died.

      The structural features of bridges do not provide for the rigid fixation of span structures with supports, explained the Ministry of Transport and Road Management of the Sverdlovsk region. After the tragedy, officials from the ministry noted that perhaps the height of such bridges should be raised higher.
