      Abnormal rains this summer have seriously affected the water quality in the reservoirs of Yekaterinburg. This was stated by the director of the ecological fund "Water of Eurasia," Anatoly Mashanov, in an interview with "Signal Ural."

      According to the expert, due to heavy rains, a large amount of natural organic matter was washed into the water bodies from forests, swamps, and fields. As a result, the color of the water reached 220 degrees—according to Mashanov, it became similar to strongly brewed tea.

      The main part of the water in Yekaterinburg is purified through settling and filtration through quartz sand. With a sharp increase in the amount of organic matter, such a system experiences serious strain. At the same time, the city's "Vodokanal" has had a membrane ultrafiltration station operating for over ten years, capable of purifying water even during significant deterioration in its quality.

      However, its capacity is currently insufficient for the entire city. Yekaterinburg requires more than 400 thousand cubic meters of drinking water per day, while the installation produces about 60 thousand cubic meters. In emergency mode, its productivity can be increased to 90 thousand cubic meters.
