Seventeen-year-old cyclist dies in Nizhny Tagil
Today at 09:25, a minor cyclist died as a result of a traffic accident in Nizhny Tagil. The tragedy occurred on Friday, August 1, around 5:30 p.m. on Lugansk Avenue, 9, according to the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of Russia for the Sverdlovsk Region.
Preliminary reports indicate that a 29-year-old driver of a Volvo sedan, traveling from the "Southern Entrance" highway towards Ural Avenue, hit a cyclist crossing the roadway at an unregulated pedestrian crossing without dismounting (on a bicycle).
The 17-year-old cyclist died at the scene before medical personnel arrived due to injuries sustained.
Regarding the incident, the driver stated that he was blinded by the sun. Recognizing a person on the crossing too late, he attempted to avoid a collision by applying emergency braking.
A sobriety test showed that the man was sober.
The driver of the passenger car, a local resident with 11 years of driving experience, was previously fined once this year for a traffic violation.
