A motorcyclist died in Yekaterinburg after falling into a construction trench.
An accident in which a motorcyclist died occurred last week in Yekaterinburg.
The tragic crash happened early on Thursday morning, August 28, at about 06:30 on 5 Smazchikov Street (Pionersky settlement).
According to preliminary data, a 40-year-old rider of a Honda motorcycle, traveling along Smazchikov Street from Uchiteley Street toward Vostochnaya Street, entered a construction pit in a roadworks zone.
The rider was wearing a helmet and protective gear, but nonetheless suffered injuries incompatible with life and died at the scene before the ambulance arrived.
It is known that the deceased, a resident of Yekaterinburg, had two years' experience riding with a Category A license. During that period he was held administratively liable 16 times for violations of the traffic rules of the Russian Federation.
The motorcyclist's condition at the time of the accident will be established by the results of a forensic medical examination. At present, the internal affairs authorities are investigating the incident.
In April the regional State Traffic Inspectorate reported a significant rise in accidents involving motorcyclists. In 2024, 32 people were killed in motorcycle-involved crashes.
In February, when discussing the causes of fatal accidents, the Yekaterinburg police named road reconstruction as the main one. A spike in such accidents was recorded at repair sites. "The severe consequences were the result of drivers' failure to take into account changes in traffic regulation on particular stretches," the city UMVD noted.
