
In Yekaterinburg, a 20-year-old female driver of a Daewoo Matiz was hit by a tram, injuring the tram conductor.
A Daewoo Matiz and a tram on route 2 collided this past Sunday; an elderly woman was injured.
The accident occurred on Sunday, August 31 at around 5:30 p.m. on 53 Tatischeva Street. The tram was operating on route No. 2 “Elmash–VIZ”; at the time of the crash there were eight passengers on board.
According to preliminary information, the driver of the Daewoo Matiz, a 20-year-old woman with two years’ driving experience, while making a U‑turn from Tokarey Street toward Krasnouralskaya Street, failed to yield to the tram.
As a result of the accident, a conductor was injured, a woman born in 1951. She was hospitalized in City Clinical Hospital No. 36 with contusions.
Police officers determined that the Daewoo Matiz driver had not previously been held administratively liable for traffic violations. The tram was driven by a 24-year-old man with 1.5 years’ driving experience in the “Tm” category. No traffic violations were recorded for him either.
The police are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
The Yekaterinburg State Traffic Inspectorate is urging motorists to exercise utmost caution when making maneuvers. “Any turns while the vehicle is in motion should be made sensibly, safely for everyone, and without creating obstacles for other road users,” the agency reminded.
