"They say children are fine without it": hundreds of students in Yekaterinburg were left without internet

      Students of the Ural Polytechnic College complained about the lack of internet in the dormitory located at 85 Lenin Avenue. The administration does not install Wi‑Fi, so doing assignments and writing theses is almost impossible.

      — The only words were: "the kids are fine without the internet as it is." Many came from other regions, some are low‑income and can't even afford to rent an apartment. Final‑year students simply cannot prepare to defend their course papers and theses. Many complain that mobile reception doesn't even work during the day, one of the students told the E1.RU portal.

      Students noted that there are outlets for routers in the rooms, but they are not allowed to have internet installed. And mobile reception in the dormitory is far from reliable due to a lack of coverage.

      The director of the Ural Polytechnic College, Vyacheslav Moskovin, said that students have everything they need in the academic building: access points and computers in the library.

      — Many of our students are minors, so we have a responsibility for the content they can access. They have everything they need for studying, they just want to have it in the dormitory. There is no such option in the dormitory. Using mobile internet is their responsibility and that of their parents, Vyacheslav Moskovin replied.

      If disruptions to mobile internet continue, students will be allocated a classroom in the dormitory with the ability to connect to the internet.

      So, it seems, there will be no internet in the rooms.
