In Yekaterinburg, the Chkalovsky District Court handed down a sentence in a criminal case concerning a robbery attack on a pensioner who was walking a dog in a courtyard, the Sverdlovsk Region prosecutor’s office reported on Friday.

During the trial it was established that in July of this year in the morning hours the accused, Anatoly Ipatov, born in 1978, having armed himself with a knife with the intent to commit a robbery, went to one of the courtyards on Samoletnaya Street in Yekaterinburg. There he picked out a victim — an elderly woman walking a dog. Ipatov pulled a mask over his face and then attacked the victim. Brandishing the knife and threatening violence, he demanded that she hand over her mobile phone.

The victim, born in 1954, perceived the threat as real and offered no resistance, giving the robber the phone. The defendant’s whereabouts were later determined thanks to recordings from surveillance cameras.

The man had previously been convicted of a serious crime. He was charged under part 2 of Article 162 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (robbery committed with the threat of violence dangerous to life and health, involving the use of an item used as a weapon). The court sentenced the repeat offender to 5.5 years in a strict‑regime penal colony.
