The Yekaterinburg mayor's office offered residents replacements for the demolished "Rospechat" kiosks.
The head of the mayor’s Department of Consumer Market, Maksim Chaplygin, said that the places occupied by Rospechat kiosks will be taken by chain stores, Russian Post branches and ordinary subscriptions. So far no one is applying for the auctions where spaces for printed matter are offered.
LLC "Aprel-Logistic", which supplies newspapers and magazines, announced it would suspend shipments of periodicals to Ekaterinburg kiosks from September 20. The mayor’s office continues negotiations with the company "Press‑Street", which supplies magazines to Ekaterinburg outlets of "Pyaterochka", "Monetka", "Magnit" and "Verny".
"Russian Post branches, stores, subscriptions — for now that's how it is. We haven’t forgotten about kiosks and printed matter. We’ve completed 15 auctions. We’ll complete another 34 by the end of the year. We have 112 spots for printed matter under assessment. No businesses are applying. If anyone is interested, they can apply to the district administration and they will organize an auction," Chaplygin told Ura.Ru.
According to him, businesses are put off by the low profitability of kiosks and the high contract price for placement, which can reach 250,000 rubles. However, kiosks selling periodicals have a low rental cost — 5–6 thousand rubles per month. This is explained by the City Duma’s 2024 decision to lower the placement fee for these facilities because of the social importance of the business.
"If you take a starting contract price of 250,000, divide it by seven years, you get just under five thousand a month. That fee is even lower than what any other non‑stationary retail outlets (NSOs), like 'Ice Cream' stands, pay. The question of low profitability is debatable. We told Rospechat that we would propose to the deputies to cancel this payment — the right to placement — but we need to justify it," the official added.
Recall that the mass demolition of Rospechat kiosks in Ekaterinburg began in July 2025. By September the last retail outlets of this network could disappear from Ekaterinburg’s streets.
Earlier, a Rospechat representative said that the closure of kiosks selling newspapers and magazines in Ekaterinburg could escalate into the closure of the press distribution network across the whole Sverdlovsk region. It was also reported that the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation had been asked to leave Rospechat stalls in the city.
Later, Sverdlovsk residents were told where they can now buy newspapers and magazines after the demolition of Rospechat kiosks. We also reported that Rospechat employees in Ekaterinburg risk losing their jobs. Incidentally, the Ekaterinburg prosecutor’s office said that the mass demolition of kiosks in the city is unjustified.
