Rospotrebnadzor banned Zhiznmart's "farmers' shelves".
Sanitary inspectors have banned the so‑called "farmers' shelves" that appeared in the Zhiznmart chain in Yekaterinburg.
As previously reported, Zhiznmart volunteered to help gardeners sell their fruit and vegetable produce.
"We reported that gardeners can bring cherries, currants and anything else to the store, as long as it LOOKS fresh," writes the Telegram channel Ural Mash, which contacted the regional Rospotrebnadzor to find out whether this is legal from a public health safety standpoint.
"They were told: the law is being violated; without documents you cannot sell the goods," Ural Mash reports.
The scheme was so dubious and risky that even the chain's employees did not approve of it, the Telegram channel notes.
"For two years the trick worked like this: anyone would bring berries, fruits, vegetables, stick on a phone number, write their full name and wait for a transfer," Ural Mash explains.
