The mayor of Yekaterinburg, Alexey Orlov, officially commented on the demolition of bus stops and kiosks in the city.
Yekaterinburg Mayor Alexey Orlov commented on the situation with the empty plots that appeared after the dismantling of old bus stop complexes and kiosks. According to him, current legislation prohibits combining public transport stops with non-stationary retail outlets, so the dismantling process is inevitable.
At the same time, the head of the city noted that criticism of the organization of this work is being accepted, and he assured that new modern shelters will appear at the sites of the demolished stops.
“Forty stops have already been installed, a contract for another 150 was recently signed, and the city plans to purchase roughly the same number next year,” Orlov said in an interview with E1.RU.
As for the mass dismantling of non-stationary retail outlets (NTOs), the mayor confirmed that this work will continue.
“There should be no stalls or kiosks on flowerbeds and landscaping objects. They have no water, sewage, or hygiene facilities. A seller must be able to work in normal sanitary conditions. The majority of residents support the restoration of order. In 2025 the terms of most land lease agreements expire, which is why a large-scale dismantling is being carried out,” explained Alexey Orlov.
He also added that Yekaterinburg previously had an excessive number of kiosks, despite a well-developed network of brick-and-mortar stores.
The Yekaterinburg mayor’s office offered residents replacements for the demolished Rospechat kiosks.
The Yekaterinburg prosecutor’s office reported that the mass demolition of kiosks in the city is unjustified.
In Yekaterinburg, pensioners built a bus stop with their own hands.
