A major channel for illegal migration was discovered in Yekaterinburg.
Officers of the FSB Directorate for the Sverdlovsk Region carried out a special operation during which they dismantled a criminal group that organized the illegal stay in Russia of migrants from East Asian countries.
According to the agency, the scheme had been operating since 2017. Members of the group submitted forged documents to government authorities containing false information about the migrants’ purposes of visit, places of work and residence, helping them to unlawfully obtain legal status in the country.
A criminal case has been opened against the suspects under the article “Organization of illegal migration committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy.” They face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to 1 million rubles.
During searches of the suspects’ homes and places of work, forged documents, seals, lists of regularized migrants and electronic equipment were seized. The suspects have been arrested; investigative actions are ongoing.
