Equipment that improves cancer treatment outcomes has arrived at the Sverdlovsk Oncology Dispensary.
Three new devices for fluorescent navigation totaling about 12 million rubles have been delivered to the Sverdlovsk Regional Oncology Dispensary. The equipment is intended to assess the condition of the lymphatic system of the upper limbs in patients after surgical treatment of breast tumors. Fluorescent navigation allows tissues to be visualized in real time and enables highly precise microsurgical procedures — for example, suturing the tiniest lymphatic vessels.
"This is an extremely complex microsurgical technique: the diameter of the vessel is less than a millimeter, it is very fragile, so jeweler-like precision is required when placing the suture. Such methods are also used to close soft tissue defects when transplanting skin flaps, which is especially important in reconstructive surgery," said Margarita Magdalyanova, head of the Department of Skin and Breast Tumors at the Sverdlovsk Regional Oncology Dispensary.
According to her, mastery of microsurgical techniques is today a key area of development in oncological surgery for treating women with breast tumors.
