Construction of a city commuter rail line between Solnechny and Akademichesky is beginning in Yekaterinburg, the Signal publication reports.
First Deputy Head of Yekaterinburg Igor Sutyagin approved a land demarcation project, allocating land for a railway in the district for the first time. A plot of 2.2 hectares, more than 600 meters long, has been set aside for the tracks. This is the first stage of preparing the route for the future branch.
The route is part of the large "Southwest Bypass" project (43 km) within the creation of a unified city commuter rail network for the agglomeration, a decision on which was made in 2022. A month ago, development of the route's transport model began. The overall commuter rail project includes other lines that will connect Yekaterinburg with six cities in the region.
It was previously reported that a new road for buses will be built in Yekaterinburg.
