The Sverdlovsk rock club's anniversary will be celebrated on a grand scale in Yekaterinburg.
Yekaterinburg is preparing to mark the 40th anniversary of the Sverdlovsk rock club, which will take place in 2026. The coming year has been declared the Year of Ural Rock in the Ural capital.
The initiator of the Year of Ural Rock was the former manager of the band Smyslovye Gallyutsinatsii, Oleg Genenfeld, writes Kommersant‑Ural. During 2026, Yekaterinburg will host themed concerts, lectures, exhibitions, tours, house concerts in bars, and plays, the publication reports.
On February 4 a "Big Rock House Concert" is scheduled at the KKT "Kosmos" in Yekaterinburg. The date is timed to coincide with the day of remembrance for the poet Ilya Kormiltsev, Kommersant‑Ural reports.
Unfortunately, Vyacheslav Butusov (Nautilus Pompilius, for whom the vast majority of lyrics were written by Kormiltsev) is not among the concert participants so far.
In addition, in 2026 a tribute album (from the English "tribute" — "a mark of respect") of songs by rock bands that were part of the Sverdlovsk rock club is planned to be presented.
The working group for organizing the Year of Ural Rock is headed by the mayor of Yekaterinburg, Alexey Orlov. It includes Oleg Genenfeld himself, musicians Vladimir Shakhrin (Chaif), Vadim Samoylov (Agata Kristi), Alexander Pantykin (Urfin Jus), Evgeny Gorenburg (Ural Music Night), and Dmitry Karasyuk (journalist).
The Sverdlovsk rock club was created on March 15, 1986, and existed until 1991.
Earlier it became known that the rock club's anniversary would also be commemorated this year by an ice town in the center of Yekaterinburg.
