A high-speed rail line will be built between Yekaterinburg and Moscow.
Russian Railways (RZD) plans to build a high-speed line that will connect Moscow and Yekaterinburg. RIA Novosti reports that the project for the new line was presented at the "Transport of Russia" forum.
Thanks to the launch of the HSL, travel time between Yekaterinburg and the capital will be reduced from the current 25–28 hours to approximately 6.5–8 hours. The length of the future route will be 1,532 km; it will pass through Kazan.
This will be the second high-speed route out of Moscow — the first is being built in the direction of Saint Petersburg. Next-generation trains capable of reaching speeds of up to 400 km/h are being developed for it. Their production is handled by the Ural Locomotives enterprise in Verkhnyaya Pyshma.
