A padel coach from Yekaterinburg, Dmitry Myagkov, became the Russian champion in the sport. The Russian Padel Championship was held in Moscow from November 13 to 16, reports KP-Yekaterinburg.
One hundred sixty athletes from 19 regions of Russia took part in the championship. The prize fund amounted to two million rubles. In addition, based on the results of the championship, the top four pairs in both the men's and women's competitions receive candidate status for the Russian national team. The winners also receive 2,000 ranking points each.
The coach of the RMK Padel Academy in Yekaterinburg, Dmitry Myagkov, played alongside Russian national team member and the country’s ninth-ranked player, Petr Maltsev. In the final they played against Artem Matus and Pavel Karpushkin. The match ended 6:2, 7:6, reports KP-Yekaterinburg.
Before the championship, Dmitry and Petr had only one week to train together. Specialists from the RMK Padel Academy helped them to gel as a pair.
The academy’s coaching team is headed by the director of the RCC Padel league, two-time world padel champion Tito Allemandi. "In September I came to the RMK Padel Academy, where I began training with world champions. Every day they show us a level of play that until now existed only in Europe," Dmitry Myagkov said.
Recall that in September a RMK padel arena opened in Yekaterinburg on the site of the Uralets Cultural and Entertainment Complex. It is home to the RCC Padel club and the RMK Padel Academy, which offers classes for anyone interested.
