It was proposed to return Yekaterinburg's first-graders to kindergartens.
The authorities of Yekaterinburg have proposed solving the shortage of places in primary schools by using half-empty kindergartens.
According to the head of Yekaterinburg’s education department, Inna Gumbatova, 339 kindergartens operate in the city, attended by 74,000 children aged one to seven. About 10,000 more children are on waiting lists for kindergarten places. But there are no children aged three to seven on the waiting lists, and several districts have vacant places in preschool institutions.
— We are seeing underutilization of kindergartens. These are the Ordzhonikidzevsky, Leninsky and Verkh-Isetsky districts, — the EAN outlet cites Gumbatova.
Yekaterinburg Mayor Alexey Orlov clarified that in 2019 about 120,000 preschoolers attended kindergartens. They have now become schoolchildren. As a result, Orlov suggested handing the unfilled kindergartens over to first-graders.
Earlier, Yekaterinburg residents were told how to get a refund for kindergarten fees.
