Alexey Orlov, the mayor of Yekaterinburg, announced what will ultimately happen to the Khimash Cultural Center.

Yekaterinburg’s mayor said that the Khimash House of Culture will not be preserved in its current form; it is easier to build a new House of Culture. He said this on the air of the Fourth Channel.

The mayor recalled that the Khimash House of Culture had been privately owned for a long time, no major renovations had been carried out there, and the facility had been closed for several years due to its unsafe condition. According to him, the city considered options to buy it out or exchange it with a subsequent transfer of the building to municipal ownership, but such procedures require complex and extensive documentation. In the end it was decided that it would be simpler and more effective to erect a new modern House of Culture.

The developer plans to build on the site of the former building a residential complex with integrated premises of about 2,500 square meters — precisely the amount the Department of Culture estimates is necessary for cultural clubs and sections to operate. These spaces will allow the continuation of the arts, sports and dance programs that previously operated at the Khimash House of Culture.

A 300-seat auditorium will be located in the Ekran cultural center.
