Meteorologists have said what the weather will be like in January in Sverdlovsk Oblast and Yekaterinburg.
The Russian Hydrometeorological Center reported that the average temperature in Sverdlovsk Oblast in January is expected to be around the norm. That means around -14 to -16 °C, and in the far north of the region -17 to -19 °C. However, precipitation will be above the long-term average (the norm is 22–30 mm).
The Yandex Weather service believes that January in Yekaterinburg will be the cloudiest and coldest month of the year. The average daytime temperature in January will be -13 °C. The city will have 21 overcast days and only three clear ones; on the remaining days the Ural capital will be buried in snow.
According to Gismeteo, severe frosts are still not expected in Yekaterinburg in January. From January 1 to 3 daytime temperatures are forecast at around -9 to -14 °C, and at night temperatures will drop as low as -20 °C. However, from January 4 to 13 nighttime readings will rise to -9 °C, and during the day it will be around -2 to -7 °C. From the 14th until the end of the month it will cool again to -11 to -15 °C, with nights down to -19 °C. Snow is expected between January 19 and 30.
