Sverdlovsk police prevented any incidents at holiday venues on New Year's Eve.

On December 31, 14 events dedicated to the celebration of the New Year were held in 10 localities of Sverdlovsk Oblast, with around 22,000 people taking part. This was reported by the head of the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region, Valery Gorelykh.

According to him, festive celebrations were held at 55 ice towns in 40 municipalities, with about 19,000 people participating.

“A total of 452 police officers were deployed to maintain public order at all festive venues. Our combat colleagues from the National Guard (Rosgvardiya) assisted the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as did our regular helpers from private law-enforcement-oriented associations, members of volunteer people's squads (DND) and Cossacks. A reserve of forces and resources was available in case the operational situation worsened. The law enforcers fully coped with the task. No emergencies or other criminal incidents occurred at the festive venues,” Colonel Gorelykh said.

The Sverdlovsk police garrison will continue to operate in a heightened state of operational readiness until the end of the New Year holidays. The regional MVD headquarters operates a 24-hour hotline: 8343-358-71-61.
