A small park honoring the trainer-rescuer has been opened in Yekaterinburg at the corner of Frunze and Belinsky streets.
The square named in honor of Viktor Kobtsev, an Honored Coach of the RSFSR in fire-applied sport, was opened in Yekaterinburg at the end of December 2025, the city administration’s press service reports.
The square is located at the intersection of Frunze and Belinsky streets in the Leninsky District. “The location was not chosen by chance: opposite it stands the building of the Firefighters’ Technical Support Unit,” the mayor’s press service reports.
Visitors to the square can learn about Viktor Kobtsev’s merits from a commemorative plaque installed there.
Under Viktor Kobtsev’s leadership, the Sverdlovsk Oblast team won the national championships in fire-applied sport 11 times.
In memory of the coach, Yekaterinburg has for the second year hosted the All-Russian EMERCOM competition “Viktor Kobtsev Cup” in fire-rescue sport.
The ceremonial opening of the square, which took place on December 22, was attended by Yekaterinburg’s head Alexey Orlov, the head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) of Russia for Sverdlovsk Oblast Viktor Teryaev, and the head of the Leninsky District administration Elena Beruashvili.
