In Yekaterinburg, an Azerbaijani family that received New Year's gifts from the district head was harassed.
In Yekaterinburg, a family of Azerbaijanis who received inexpensive New Year gifts from officials was hounded after media coverage.
A ball with a request from three children from the same family, none of whom are yet 10 years old, was randomly taken from the "Tree of Wishes" by the head of the Zheleznodorozhny District, Vitaly Pershin, the Telegram channel close to the city administration "Yekaterinburg. Main" reports.
The children asked for a stunt scooter, a sweet gift and a craft kit. But after the story was published in one of the major Yekaterinburg Telegram channels, a torrent of abuse fell on the family and the officials. To close the matter, the children's father decided to return the gifts.
"Nobody's gone feral, right?" the unofficial mayoral channel addressed those who took part in the harassment.
However, even under that post not all opinions about the situation defended the aggrieved. Commenters are convinced that the children from this Azerbaijani family (who, according to the mayor's office, have lived in Russia for 20 years) were harmed, first and foremost, by the actions of their own fellow countrymen, as well as by society's accumulated discontent with the migration policy being pursued.
