A street named after the renowned designer of cruise missiles Pavel Kamnev has appeared in Yekaterinburg.
Pavel Kamnev’s name was given to a street in one of the new residential developments in the Ordzhonikidzevsky District that had borne the project name “Novaya‑1.” The corresponding decree was signed back in December by Yekaterinburg’s head, Alexey Orlov.
"Assign to the element of the street-road network — the street with the project name 'Novaya‑1', located in the Ordzhonikidzevsky District of the city of Yekaterinburg — the name 'Pavel Kamnev,'" the document reads.
Pavel Kamnev was a rocket weapons designer. For many years he headed OKB "Novator" (an experimental design bureau). Under his leadership more than 20 models of missile systems for the military were developed, including the S-300V and the Kalibr family of cruise missiles, Yekaterinburg media recall.
In 2016 he became the first resident of Sverdlovsk Oblast to be awarded the title "Hero of Labour of the Russian Federation." In the last years of his life Pavel Kamnev served as the scientific director of the Almaz-Antey concern.
Honorary citizen of Yekaterinburg Pavel Kamnev died on January 9, 2023, at the age of 85, KP‑Yekaterinburg reports.
