A criminal case has been initiated against a railway worker who stole spare parts for freight cars worth 225,000 rubles in Nizhny Tagil, the press service of the Transport Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Ural Federal District reported on Thursday. The man had no previous legal issues.
The criminal case under Part 1 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Theft") was initiated by the investigative unit of the Linear Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia at the Nizhny Tagil station against a 37-year-old resident of the city of Kushva - a mechanic from one of the railway organizations in the Sverdlovsk region.
The previously unconvicted man is suspected of stealing spare parts from freight cars, with a total value of 225,330 rubles. The suspect was detained in February of this year by officers of the Nizhny Tagil transport police during operational activities at the Goroblagodatskaya station.
Police stopped the man as he was leaving the enterprise after his shift. Upon inspecting the suspect's belongings, law enforcement officers found three railway brake shoes in his backpack. The criminal was detained and taken to the transport police's office for further investigation.
During a search of the detained individual's residence, operatives discovered several more spare parts from freight cars: 2,459 bushings of various diameters, 42 metal gaskets, 61 movable plates, and another 6 brake shoes.
As investigators established, over the course of a year, he repeatedly placed them in his backpack during his work shift and then carried them out of the enterprise. The stolen property from Russian Railways was intended to be sold by the individual.
Currently, the investigation of the criminal case is ongoing. As a preventive measure, the suspect has been placed under an obligation to appear.
