The lawyer for high-profile cases in Yekaterinburg, Kalegina, was chosen a measure of restraint.

      The Lenin District Court of Yekaterinburg on Friday, May 1, considered the investigator's petition for the application of a preventive measure against lawyer Zhanna Kalegina, reports the press service of the Sverdlovsk region courts.

      The preliminary investigation authorities accuse lawyer Zhanna Kalegina of "committing two intentional serious crimes, each directed against justice."

      According to the investigation, at the end of 2025, Kalegina and her accomplices bribed one of the witnesses in a criminal case and also sought to establish contact with the aim of bribing another witness.

      Kalegina is charged under Part 4 of Article 309 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Bribery or coercion to give testimony or to evade giving testimony or to give incorrect testimony, committed by an organized group - note from Uralweb.ru) and Part 1 of Article 30, Part 4 of Article 309 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

      As a preventive measure, the accused has been placed under house arrest until June 15, 2026.

      The court's ruling has not yet entered into legal force and may be appealed by the parties within 3 days.

      Lawyer Zhanna Kalegina is known in the Ural capital as a participant in a number of high-profile criminal trials.

      As the EAN agency reminds, in 2024, Kalegina defended 45-year-old Dmitry Kuchin in court, who brutally killed his girlfriend's one-and-a-half-month-old grandson. She also actively represented the interests of the family of the "black guardian" Veronika Naumova, accused of torturing and subsequently brutally murdering a 5-year-old child under Naumova's guardianship.

      After the main figure in this grim story refused Kalegina's services, EAN notes, she became the defender of Naumova's husband, Alexander Naumov.

      As a result, Kuchin was found insane and sent for treatment in a closed-type psychiatric hospital. Veronika Naumova was sentenced to 24 years in prison. Naumova's nephew, Daniil Egolnikov, who participated in the abuse of the child, was also sentenced to a real term. The court sentenced him to 5 years in a penal colony. A similar term was given to Naumova's husband, Alexander, who, according to the prosecution, also tortured the warded child.
