In Yekaterinburg, the murderer of a passerby on the street was recognized as sane on the second attempt.
In Yekaterinburg, a defendant previously deemed insane has begun to be tried. The court questioned whether the man could bear criminal responsibility for the murder of a woman he had not known before.
According to the investigation, on the morning of December 7, 2024, Yekaterinburg resident Ranis Giniyatov encountered a previously unknown woman on 40th Anniversary of October Street. He attacked her and inflicted multiple blows to her head and body, then sat on her and began to strangle her with a scarf. Due to the injuries sustained, the victim fell into a coma and died in the hospital in February 2025.
Giniyatov is accused by the preliminary investigation authorities of murder out of hooligan motives. The investigation believes that Giniyatov was under the influence of alcohol and psychotropic substances, according to the press service of the Sverdlovsk region courts.
The criminal case was submitted to the court with a ruling to apply compulsory medical measures to Giniyatov as he was deemed insane.
However, during the proceedings, the court questioned the defendant's mental state. A new examination was appointed, which concluded that Giniyatov was sane.
The Sverdlovsk Regional Court has begun reviewing the criminal case. The day before, the indictment was announced in court, and the victims were interrogated. Judicial proceedings are ongoing. The defendant's detention has been extended.
