In Yekaterinburg, a 14-year-old girl had a wisdom tooth grow in her nose.
In Yekaterinburg, doctors at the "Bonum" medical center removed a wisdom tooth that had begun to develop in the area of the nose of a 14-year-old patient.
The girl was admitted to the medical center with complaints of severe pain on the left side of her face, nasal congestion, headaches, and discomfort in the eye area. The cause of her ailment was determined after a computed tomography scan. The study showed that the bud of the wisdom tooth was located outside the dental arch—in the maxillary sinus—completely obstructing its function.
Due to the disruption of the natural mucus drainage, the patient developed chronic inflammation, so hospitalization was carried out as quickly as possible.
The operation was performed using the functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) method.
Doctors removed the tooth along with the follicle without external incisions and intervention in the upper jaw. Just two days after the surgery, the pain disappeared, and a week later, the patient was discharged home.
According to specialists, such anomalies are extremely rare, and their exact causes have not yet been established.
