The Sverdlovsk region has been proposed to be renamed.
The leader of the "Just Russia" party, Sergey Mironov, has proposed the idea of possibly renaming the Sverdlovsk region. According to him, such issues should be approached with maximum care, taking into account both the historical context and the practical consequences. This is reported by "Kommersant."
Mironov compared the discussion of a possible renaming to the years-long debate about the burial of Vladimir Lenin, noting that society may revisit such decisions over time—when generations change.
The politician also emphasized that any renaming is inevitably associated with significant financial and organizational costs: from replacing signs to reissuing documents.
