In the Chelyabinsk region, on July 20, the first monument to the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II, who was killed along with his family and servants in the Ipatiev House in Yekaterinburg in July 1918, was unveiled in the Ural region. The bronze monument was installed near the St. Nicholas Cathedral in Verkhneuralsk, reports the portal cheltv.ru. It became the first monument in the Urals and the second in Russia where the tsar is depicted sitting in the saddle. The author of the composition is Chelyabinsk sculptor Anna Shumakova, a member of the Union of Artists of Russia.
The northern chapel of the St. Nicholas Cathedral was erected in honor of the salvation of Tsarevich Nicholas during his trip to Japan. In the summer of 1891, the future emperor personally attended a service in this temple.
