The number of counterfeit money has noticeably decreased in the Sverdlovsk region.

      In the first six months of 2026, 21 counterfeit banknotes were detected in the banking system of the Sverdlovsk region.       Most often, fraudsters counterfeit banknotes with a denomination of 5000 rubles. A total of 14 such fakes were identified. In second place are banknotes with a denomination of 1000 rubles, with five of these found. Additionally, in the first half of the year, one counterfeit coin was identified, reports EAN.

      — More than half of the counterfeit banknotes were detected by credit organizations. This indicates the high responsibility of bank employees—upon suspecting a counterfeit, they handed it over to the police and helped carry out work "on the hot trail," clarified expert Elena Fomina from the Ural Main Directorate of the Bank of Russia.

      According to her, some signs of authenticity can be checked independently: the banknote should be touched, viewed against the light, and shaken while observing it from a sharp angle. This allows for easy detection of relief and color-changing elements, as well as micro-perforation. To study all the signs of authenticity of Russian money and to practice distinguishing them, one can use the mobile application "Banknotes of the Bank of Russia."
