A video from a dashcam has emerged, capturing a car accident that resulted in the death of a 5-month-old baby.

A five-month-old baby, who died the day before in a traffic accident on the Yekaterinburg-Tyumen highway, was being transported in violation of traffic rules, the State Traffic Inspectorate of Russia for the Sverdlovsk region reported on Tuesday. The agency also published footage from a dashcam capturing the moment of the horrific accident.

The tragedy that claimed the life of the five-month-old boy occurred on Monday, August 17, at 10:30 in the territory of the Pyshminsky district (184th kilometer of the Yekaterinburg-Tyumen highway).

According to updated data, the driver of the Exeed vehicle, a resident of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, was traveling from Tyumen towards Yekaterinburg. During the drive, the man was distracted by the child sitting in the back seat, resulting in him losing control of the vehicle and allowing it to veer off the road and subsequently overturn.

The entire family was in the car: the 34-year-old driver, his 36-year-old wife, and their two young sons born in 2023 and 2026.

At the moment of the overturning, the younger child, the five-month-old boy, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene from injuries incompatible with life before the ambulance arrived. The other family members sustained severe head injuries and were hospitalized in the Pyshminsk Central District Hospital.

Attention! The video is not recommended for viewing by children and sensitive individuals.

Traffic inspectors established that all passengers and the driver himself were not wearing seat belts.

The three-year-old child was in the cabin without a child seat, although a restraint device was available but not used as intended, and the infant was transported in a car cradle, which was also not secured with seat belts, leading to the tragedy.

It was established that the man has 13 years of driving experience. During this time, he had previously been held administratively responsible for traffic violations 72 (!) times.

A sobriety test for the driver showed a negative result.

Employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate and an investigative operational group worked at the scene of the accident. An investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances of the incident.
