      You can reduce utility expenses not only by saving water and electricity in your apartment. A significant portion of overpayment can be prevented by monitoring the communal meters, the heating system, and your own measuring devices.

      Housing and Utilities expert Dmitry Bondar, in a conversation with RIA Novosti, advises residents to regularly check the readings and operation of communal measuring devices together with the management company. This helps to detect leaks in the basement or illegal connections to communal networks. As a result, the costs for water and electricity do not have to be paid by all residents of the building. According to the expert's assessment, such control can reduce overpayment on the ODN line by about 500 rubles per apartment per month.

      Another way to save is to check the heating system. During the off-season, apartments often become too hot, prompting residents to open windows, effectively heating the street. Meanwhile, the payment for heat continues to accrue.

      The problem can be solved by automatic weather regulation of heating. The system independently adjusts the heat supply depending on the outdoor temperature. According to Bondar, this can reduce heating costs by 20-30%. Savings for one apartment during the heating season can range from 1,000 to 2,500 rubles per month.

      Don't forget about apartment meters. If the device is not installed or its calibration period has expired, the calculation may be made according to the standard with an increasing coefficient—in this case, the payment significantly increases.

      Additionally, if residents leave for an extended period and it is technically impossible to install meters, they can request a recalculation for utility services.
