A resident of Nizhny Tagil came home and died. It turned out he had been hit by a minibus.

      In Nizhny Tagil a minibus driver failed to conceal the fact that he had struck a pedestrian, who died the following day from his injuries.

      The accident occurred on Monday, September 29 at 21:40 at the signalized intersection of Krasnogvardeyskaya and Sadovodov streets in Nizhny Tagil.

      According to preliminary information, the 72-year-old driver of the Iveco-3284 bus, proceeding after his service run 640E “Nizhny Tagil — Yekaterinburg” to a filling station toward the “Yuzhny podyezd” road, struck a man born in 1971 who was on the roadway without intending to cross it.

      After the collision the bus driver limited his actions to calling an ambulance, assessing the pedestrian’s condition as satisfactory and failing to report the incident to the police.

      Having not properly documented the accident, the driver left the scene. The injured man was taken to City Hospital No. 4, where he received medical care and was released. The next day, September 30, the injured pedestrian died at his home.

      Preliminary data indicate the death resulted from injuries sustained in the accident.

      At present, investigators from the police investigative department are establishing all details of the incident. The driver who concealed the fact of the accident has already been identified. The question of initiating a criminal case is under consideration.

      The State Traffic Inspectorate reminds: in the event of an accident it is necessary to immediately stop the vehicle, switch on the hazard lights, place a warning triangle and report the incident to the police.

      Leaving the scene of an accident entails deprivation of driving privileges for a period of 1 to 1.5 years, or administrative arrest. Concealing the fact of an accident that resulted in serious consequences carries criminal liability.
