A raid targeting concealed license plates took place in the Krasnoufimsk district on the M-12 "Vostok" toll road.
The Sverdlovsk State Traffic Inspectorate and "Avtodor" conducted a raid on the M-12 highway against hidden license plates, the Russian State Traffic Inspectorate for the region reported.
The "Hidden Plate" raid took place this afternoon, November 4, in the Krasnoufimsky District at the 1,469 km mark of the M-12 "Vostok" federal highway. The operation was aimed at identifying drivers who conceal their state registration plates.
During the raid, inspectors stopped a Lada Vesta driven by a 52-year-old resident of Krasnoufimsk. Checks showed that before entering the tolled high-speed section of the highway the driver had removed the plates beforehand. The man explained that he was heading to the settlement of Oktyabrsky and removed the plates so as not to pay the toll.
An administrative protocol was drawn up against the offender under Part 2 of Article 12.2 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Russian Federation (for operating a vehicle without state registration plates). He faces a fine of 5,000 rubles or suspension of his driving licence for up to three months.
The case of drivers resorting to such tricks is not isolated. Last week three such violations were detected. One driver was charged for fitting counterfeit plates and will have to pay a fine of 2,500 rubles. Two vehicle owners were charged under a stricter article for repeated driving without plates; they face suspension of their driving licences for a period of 1 to 1.5 years.
The State Traffic Inspectorate reminds that any manipulation of state registration plates is an administrative offence, including concealing them, contaminating them or installing counterfeit ones.
