Appeal denied: court puts an end to the case of guardian Naumova, who killed little Daler.
Today, November 24, the Second Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction of St. Petersburg left unchanged the verdict of the Sverdlovsk Regional Court regarding Veronika Naumova and Daniil Egolnikov. Thus, Naumova is to serve 24 years in a general-regime penal colony with a subsequent restriction of liberty for 2 years, while Egolnikov will serve 5 years. This was reported by the regional prosecutor’s office press service.
On July 28 the Sverdlovsk Regional Court had already handed down a verdict in the criminal case concerning the aforementioned individuals. Depending on their roles and the degree of participation in the acts imputed to them, the guardian and the young man were found guilty of committing crimes under the articles “Murder of a minor,” “Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm on a minor,” “Torture,” “Illegal deprivation of a minor’s liberty not related to his abduction,” “Involving a minor in the commission of serious and particularly serious crimes,” “Failure to perform duties in raising a minor,” and “Fraud in obtaining payments.”
Recall that the body of the boy whom the whole city had been searching for since June 26, 2023, was found early on the morning of June 29 in a garage on Simferopolskaya Street by the police. The boy’s guardian became the main suspect in the crime.
Earlier Naumova attempted to blame the boy’s older sister for his death. In addition, information emerged that the woman accused of murdering the boy had stored his body in a freezer. Media also reported that in the Yekaterinburg family where Daler died, a foster child had previously died.
In early 2025 investigators spoke about the difficulties in Veronika Naumova’s case. They explained why her criminal case became one of the most complex in 2024.
