The government of the Sverdlovsk Region has refused to sign a concession agreement for the modernization and expansion of the EKAD — a project that had been worked on since 2024.
According to a source in the road industry at "Signal Ural," a tender to select a concessionaire for the EKAD will not be held.
— Among other things, the terms of federal support that the region was counting on have changed. As a result, it was decided to abandon the project — it proved too costly for the regional budget, — the publication's interlocutor said.
Thus, in March 2025 it became known that the main ring road around Yekaterinburg could become wider and faster, but also tolled. The document proposed making the EKAD six lanes, three lanes in each direction. After reconstruction, it would be possible to drive along the entire EKAD at speeds of up to 110–130 km/h.
