"You're not allowed until the first star." The Bethlehem Star ice-sculpture festival opened.
The “Bethlehem Star” ice sculpture festival opened on Wednesday, January 7, the feast of the Nativity of Christ, at the Church on the Blood in Yekaterinburg.
The day before, our photographer Dmitry Chasovitin captured the sculptors’ final preparations to display their ice creations. But by the light of the stars and lamps they have more of the mystery of the evening when Christ was born.
The site was personally visited the day before by Metropolitan Yevgeny (Kulberg) of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye. In his Telegram channel he said that this year the theme of the Nativity of Christ resonates with events of our country’s present and past.
“The sculptors glorified the Christ who was born and reflected the feats of the builders of the Trans-Siberian Railway, soldiers of the SVO, submariners and figures of the national theatrical school,” the metropolitan explained (the author's original style preserved — ed. Uralweb).
This year 25 masters from 22 cities took part in creating the ice sculptures.
Recall that a year ago at Christmas Metropolitan Yevgeny addressed the people of Sverdlovsk with a Christmas message in which he urged Orthodox believers to celebrate the Nativity of Christ actively.
“Behold, the Bethlehem star has shone in the sky for you, O man. Follow it to Christ. Bow at His cradle.
But do not dare to come to the newborn King with empty hands. Bring to Him the gold of good deeds, the incense of prayers, the myrrh of mercy. Keep devotion to the Lord in your heart, so that no one and nothing will ever be able to take from you the joys of the Nativity of Christ by shamefully blurring in the frame everything that might remind of Him.”
This year the head of the metropolis, in his video address, wished that every believer come to the Savior’s manger, just as Christ came to us.
