Three people, including an 81-year-old woman, were injured in a traffic accident on the Serovsky Tract.
The State Traffic Inspectorate of Russia for the Sverdlovsk Region reported on a crash involving three injured people that occurred on Friday afternoon, January 9, on the Serov Highway. The accident happened at about 3:00 p.m. on the 129th kilometer of the road, near Nizhny Tagil.
As was preliminarily established, the driver of an SUV, a 67-year-old resident of Kirovgrad driving a Skoda Kodiaq toward Yekaterinburg, lost control and crossed into the oncoming lane, where he collided with a Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 52-year-old resident of Yekaterinburg and a Renault Duster driven by a 55-year-old resident of Nizhnyaya Tura.
As a result of the crash, the 67-year-old driver of the Skoda Kodiaq himself, as well as two female passengers of the oncoming vehicles — an 81-year-old woman in the Volkswagen Jetta and a 55-year-old woman who had been riding in the Renault Duster — sustained injuries.
All the injured were hospitalized in hospitals in Nizhny Tagil with injuries of varying severity. According to preliminary data, the passengers were wearing seat belts.
The Skoda Kodiaq driver was, it was established, subjected to administrative penalties six times last year for traffic violations; the driver of the Renault Duster seven times. The driver of the Volkswagen Jetta was not held liable in 2025.
At the scene, road inspection state inspectors recorded the presence of packed snow and an unsatisfactory condition of the roadway shoulder, in particular that it was sunken. A directive has been sent to the road maintenance organization to remedy the identified deficiencies.
An investigation into the incident is currently underway. All circumstances of the crash, including the technical condition of the vehicles, the actions of the drivers, and the influence of road and weather conditions, will be studied further. Necessary expert examinations will be required to make a final procedural decision.
