Two planes were unable to depart from Koltsovo for Moscow due to abnormal snowfall.
Two aircraft scheduled to depart for Sheremetyevo this morning were, by decision of the crews while still preparing for departure, forced to return to their parking stands at Koltsovo Airport. The press service of Yekaterinburg’s airport reported this on Saturday on its Telegram channel.
Koltsovo Airport itself is operating normally; the situation in the waiting areas is calm, the press service said.
Passengers waiting to depart have access to free drinking water, and additional waiting places (mats and inflatable sofas) will be provided if necessary. Airline representatives are assisting passengers, Koltsovo said.
Passengers are asked to monitor the status of their flight via the online departures board.
Several flights are operating off schedule today due to abnormal weather in the Moscow region and the arrival restrictions imposed at Sheremetyevo Airport as a result, Koltsovo noted.
Overnight into Friday the cyclone "Francis" hit the regions of central Russia, including Moscow, RIA Novosti reports. According to Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, the capital received 42% of its monthly precipitation norm in 24 hours.
