The unveiling of the monument dedicated to the great hockey player, legendary former player of Nizhny Tagil «Metallurg» and «SKA-Sverdlovsk» Nikolay Alexandrovich Durakov, took place on Tuesday, July 29, at Shirokorechenskoye Cemetery, reports the Telegram channel «Sima-Land Live».
The monument was created thanks to patrons — businessmen Andrey Simanovsky, Mikhail Papunin, and the president of the football club «Ural» Grigory Ivanov. "We developed the concept for a long time, but decided together to make the monument in the form of a stadium. I think we succeeded. Look, the monument turned out great. Let people come, look, and know about the legend of Russian hockey, about how he always aimed to lead his team to victory while remaining modest, calm, and composed," said Mikhail Papunin.
"I am proud to have known him and glad that everyone remembers him. He was a great person, a great hockey player who did a lot for our city and our country," addressed Grigory Ivanov, president of FC Ural, to everyone present.
Nikolay Alexandrovich Durakov is a seven-time world champion in bandy. He was named the best scorer of the USSR championship six times. An honorary citizen of Yekaterinburg and Sverdlovsk Region.
